JOSEPH FARMER was born about 1750 in Bertie County, North Carolina.  He died 12 October 1794, Edgecombe County, North Carolina.  Joseph married Zilpha Barnes, daughter of John and Christian Barnes, about 1775 as proved in the will of John Barnes.  Will of John Barnes, father of Zilpha and Christian Barnes Farmers.

John Barnes had two daughters, Christian and Zilpha that married Isaac, Jr. and Joseph Farmer, sons of Isaac Farmer Sr. and ELIZABETH BRYANT BRASWELL.

In May 1783, abstracts from [214] and [215] include the following information: .....A Deed of Sale from JOSHUA MORRIS to to SAMUEL FARMER proved by the oath of JOSEPH FARMER, BENJAMIN BRASWELL & SOLOMON BRASWELL qualified for the Grand Jury.


Edgecombe County, NC - Diary of J.M. Cutchin

1859 A. BRASWELL and Spencer Lee Hart purchased 17 negroes from Dr. Ward of Greene County in December 1859 and a while after that Henry Cutchin bought 5 and WILLIAM BRASWELL 2 from the same man at $14.50 and $13.50.

1863 On Thursday the 26th of March 1863 I bought a gray horse from A. BRASWELL at 450 dollars. He is a fine horse.

1865 WM.. BRASWELL, A. BRASWELL and Henry Cutchin gave us a picnic today, May 27, 1865, It was a bad day but we had a very pretty crowd. Had music and dancing. Ladies present, Miss Pattie Lyon, Bettie Bulluck and others Misses Leggett, Misses Wheless.

1866 27th August 1866 Sister Sallie [Cutchin?] is sick at A. BRASWELL's. She has fever.
