"Parish Registers - St. Andrew, Holborn.  Register of Baptisms, Vol. 1, 1558-1623"  MS6667/1 1611 144  "Robert the son of Richard Bracewell baptised the XIIIth of October. Field Lane"

{Sorry, but in some senior moments,  I think I've been telling some folks he was born 11 Oct. Fact is, he probably WAS born on or about the 11th.  The 13th was probably the soonest his mother would be physically able to be present at that all important first sacrament.}
[So the birthday would be on or about 11 Oct 1611-Librarian]

Following I quote a letter written 20 January 1970 by Head Registry Clerk, University Registry Annex, 24 High Street, Oxford and signed by P. W. Moss.

"I confirm that according to our records, Robert Braswell matriculated on 22 February 1627-8 as a member of Hart Hall at the age of 15 and that the B.A. degree was conferred on him on 3 November 1631. I regret that I have no further information about him and can find nothing from Hertford College in which Hart Hall was incorporated."

Remember, at that time England had not accepted the use of the Gregorian calendar as we know it today and were still using the Julian calendar with the new year starting on March 25, thus the use of two years 1627/8.

The reference for Rev. Robert's 1653 service in the House of Burgesses is Henning's "Statutes of Virginia". Vol. 1, p. 378. Interestingly enough, that record is part of the circumstantial proof that Robert was vicar at St. Luke's (1650-1668)--The only way he could have been an ordained minister was to be pastor of the church next door to him,  St. Luke's.  Every one of the few with an English college education in those days was theoretically trained for the ministry.  He was suspended for his occupation, not his education.

"July, 1653.  Rev. ROBERT BRACEWELL was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses and then suspended after a few days because it was contrary to English custom for an ordained minister to serve in a legislative body.  The entry in the House record read, "He is not in a capacuty to serve as a Burgess, since it is unprecedented and may produce bad consequences."
Ministers were not allowed to serve in any legislature until the Revolution."

The only proof of his ministry at St. Luke's is circumstantial.   Surviving records of and by Newport Parish priests and vestrymen only go back to 1724.  Must I recite the circumstantial evidence?  It's good enough for several professional historical committees to allow Rev. Robert's memorial plaque to remain at St. Luke's.
